Wake Up and Energize Your Body With Essential Oils

Posted · 1 Comment

Are you finding it hard to wake up in the morning? If you are looking for an alternative to coffee try essential oils.  These oils are great to add to your morning routine.  They work especially well when combined with a shower.  If you don’t want to use these oils in the shower, try adding a few drops to your ultrasonic diffuser the night before. Set your alarm for 20 mins before you need to wake up.  When the alarm goes off, hit the snooze button and turn your diffuser on.  This will help you wake up gradually with more energy.

Here are a few essential oils you should try in your diffuser:

Grapefruit Essential Oil

Oil extracted from the fresh fruit peel of grapefruit is an excellent essential oil which can help you to energize your body in the morning. This is one of the best oils to use if you are feeling fuzzy headed or suffering from a headache. It is a rather powerful oil so there is no need to use a lot.

This essential oil will also help to unblock your nose if you suffer from morning congestion.

Orange Essential Oil

The health benefits of orange essential oil have been well known for centuries. After a night of partying, the ancient Romans used this oil as a morning after oil.   It was usually included in a morning massage because it was energizing and soothing.
Orange essential oil is overall an excellent oil when you are feeling over-tired or lethargic. It will give you an instant energy boost and at the same time make you feel relaxed. This is a great essential oil for first thing in the morning.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Mint was prized in ancient Egypt for its stimulating properties, and it is still used today as part of essential oil treatments. It is extracted from fresh or semi-dried leaves, and is nearly one third menthol. The menthol in peppermint oil makes this the ideal oil to energize and invigorate you first thing in the morning. Peppermint essential oil can also help to stimulate your circulation.

Today, it is used to treat a range of conditions such as headaches, mental fatigue, muscular pain, nausea and menopausal hot flushes.
It is highly potent and should never be used directly on skin undiluted. One of the best ways to use peppermint essential oil is to put a few drops in an ultrasonic diffuser and allow it to scent the room.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus leaves were much sought after by the Aborgines to heal wounds, treat infection and fight fatigue. It still grows all over Australia today, and some of the best quality eucalyptus essential oils come from Australia. The distinct scent of the oil is highly invigorating and wakes you up.
Eucalyptus essential oil can also be used at night if you feel congestion from a cold.  Try adding a few drops to your ultrasonic diffuser to help you to breathe easier at night.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil has a fresh, citrus smell.  It’s very stimulating. When used in the morning it can be very invigorating and help to energize the body. In aromatherapy treatment it is often used for clearing the head, and is really useful when you are mentally exhausted. It is a warming oil; perfect to use on cold mornings when you find it hard to get going. Use during the day to stimulate the mind by diffusing it.

Energizing Recipes

It is easy to make up your own energizing essential oil recipes. Some blends are more effective than others, but the beauty is that there are many different ways in which to use these oils. You can add them to your shower gel, body lotion or diffuse them.  Next time you need a pick me up, try one of these recipes:

Invigorating Shower

Add 3 drops of grapefruit, 2 drops of pepper mint and 3 drops of orange to 100 milliliters of shower gel. Be sure to blend the oils together first and then add it to the gel.  The blend will help to wake you up, and stimulate your circulation. The grapefruit will clear any morning congestion and the orange oil will benefit your skin.

Morning Body Lotion

Add 5 drops of orange, 3 drops of eucalyptus and 2 drops of lemon to 100 milliliters of body lotion, or a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil. This combination will improve your skin quality and ease any skin irritations. It will help to make your feel invigorated and the aroma from all three will clear your head.

Essential oils can easily form a part of your daily health routine. The next time you need a pick me up, try reaching for some essential oils instead of that cup of coffee.
